5 Things You Can Do During Self Quarantine

It’s now been a couple of days since we started self isolating because of the Restricted Movement Order issued by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to counter the spread of Covid-19. Thousands of Malaysians are undergoing self-quarantine, and if you’ve been a responsible citizen and stayed at home, good for you! But, sooner or later, you’d start to realise that there’s really nothing much to do once your work is complete.

Let’s face it: the presence of the Coronavirus, or Covid-19, means that, for the time being anyway, life is going to be drastically different for most of us. And it’s not going to be easy. Between working from home, not being able to chill at the mamak and watch midnight football, our days are starting to feel longer, and you might even start squabbling with your spouse or with your rowdy children! And for those of us that are unlucky, we’d have to self-quarantine at home too.

If you’re starting to lose your mind, you’re just like the rest of us! And while Netflix is the best thing that’s happened to us so far, and we can spend forever browsing for things to buy when markets open again, we want to feel productive and good about ourselves. So, here are 5 things you can do while in self quarantine!

1. Catch Up On Reading

Remember how we all make excuses for why we don’t read? Well, now’s the best time to do it! Head to your bookshelf and pick out all the books you bought over at Big Bad Wolf and have not read, get them out and read them! What better time is there to finish some books when you’re encouraged to stay at home and not go anywhere?

2. Get Organised

Now that time is of abundance because of Covid-19, and we’re all undergoing self-quarantine, we can Marie Kondo every part of our lives! Whether it’s finally getting rid of that pile of clothes on that chair in your bedroom, or finally sorting through the pile of unopened envelopes and documents on your study desk, this is the time to do it!

Decluttering your life isn’t an easy task, even for people who are already organised. From planning things from start to end, writing things down, all the way to ditching things that are unnecessary, you can become an organized person as long as you’re willing to learn and practice.

Remember to say thank you lovingly for all the things you’re going to give away. While you’re at it, here are some amazing places for you to recycle and upcycle your pre-loved items after the self isolation period. Your peace of mind will thank you for all the hard work you’ve done after it’s all over!

3. Work On Those Glutes!

Workout? I can literally hear a collective groan from everyone reading this article! We’ve always given ourselves excuses as to why we can’t workout. No time la, too busy la, tired la, I hear you, I really do! If you’ve been undergoing self-quarantine for the past few days because of the Coronavirus, and your workout regime has started to  slip because you can’t go to the gym, or be motivated/yelled at by a personal trainer, it’s time to get up off your sofa and do something!

Starting each morning with an easy stretch from Youtube is a great way to help you get your day off with the right foot. But one of the best ways to do it is to actually use the furniture around you! Yes, you can actually workout while watching TV, from the comfort of your couch. Use your sofa as a base for arm dips, or even for you to do elevated push ups, the things you can do at home are endless!

Here are some sturdy couches to help you the next time you feel productive enough to multitask in front of your television.

There’s no excuse now! Here’s a list of 5 exercises you can do while you watching TV!

4. Indoor Gardening

This brand new hobby will definitely leaf you wanting more. Get it? Here’s another plant pun. Where do flowers recharge? At a power plant! Jokes aside, we hear that it can bring a lot joy to one’s life, just ask your mum or your auntie next door. While we’re stuck indoors contemplating our boring lives, we can tend to new life growing in our gardens.

The best part is, it can all be done indoors! Haven’t you heard, indoors is the new outdoors. The trendiest plants for millennials these days are little plants called succulents. They’re basically the cat species of the plant world. They require sunlight, watering once a week, and little to no attention. Isn’t that the best?

Still can’t seem to keep them alive? Same! For the least amount of effort, refresh your home with faux plants! Zero care, but it will instantly turn your home insta-worthy for all those extra selfies you’ll be taking while undergoing self-quarantine!

5. Catch Up On All That Sleep

self-quarantine

Last but not least, we’ve come to one of our favourite parts of this self-quarantine, all the time in the world to sleep! We can lay in bed for hours (working from home of course!) and not have to set 10 alarms every morning to scare you into waking up! We can finally focus on proper ‘beauty sleep’.

Do you know that we actually spend one third of our lives sleeping? So why not make the best of it! If you’re spending 20 minutes waiting for your face mask to settle, or even cuddling up with a partner before bedtime reading, our bodies are getting ready to rest and recharge for the next day,

What better way to do it than to give your body a pat on the back for a job well done, and support it by giving it the best mattresses. Here’s a list of mattresses brands that are amazing, or you can check our our own Fella Design mattresses below:
